How can I find the correct submission file?
As a submission progresses through the editorial process, the manuscript file will, most likely, get revised and re-uploaded to the JMS. A general overview of file locations is below:
Submission file:
The file submitted by the author, as part of their original submission, will remain on the 'Summary' page. This will be available to the editor as soon as the submission is complete and will not be updated. It can act as a permanent record of the original manuscript.
The file appears in the row titled 'Original file'. If additional files were uploaded to accompany the main manuscript (e.g. figure files), then these will appear below, in the 'Supp. files' row.
The file name will have the prefix of the submission number and end 'SM'. For example, submission #58 could have the file name 58-200-1-SM.docx
Review file:
The file(s) that are sent to reviewers are always located at the top of the 'Review' page. As default the files will be those originally submitted by the author, however these can be edited prior to sending for peer review (see How Do I Edit Submitted Files, Pre-Peer Review? )
Review file names will have the prefix of the submission number and will end 'RV'. The number before the 'RV' indicates the version of this file. e.g. if the review file is updated once then the review file for submission #58 would change from 58-200-1-RV.doc to 58-200-2-RV.doc
Revised files:
As a submission progresses through a round of peer review, the various files will be available on the 'Review' page, under the section heading 'Revised Files'. This will show all files uploaded by the author and/or the editor during the current round of review as well as previous versions of the review file.
All files will be date and time stamped, so it is possible to see which is the most recent file. If multiple files have been uploaded, the final number in the file name will provide the version number. For example, if the author uploads two files for submission #93, the file name could be 93-200-1-ED.doc and 93-200-2-ED.doc.
When selecting a file to send for re-review, or accept for publication, the file should be selected from here.
