How do I make post-publication edits to a journal article?
Once an article is published, it is locked for editing. The files and metadata associated with the published content are not editable unless the article is first unpublished.
Note: Directly editing the content of a published article should not be taken lightly and should adhere to the journal’s public Corrections & Retractions policy (e.g. Ubiquity Press ). For more information, see COPE’s Retraction Guidelines: Retraction guidelines
Should you need to edit the content of a published article, you will need to:
Navigate to the Archives tab in the OJS submission list
- Find the article in question via the search bar and click ‘View’ to access it
- Click on the ‘Publication’ tab of the article - a red banner will be at the top of the display to confirm that the article is published and cannot currently be edited
Click the ‘Unpublish' button
- Click the ‘confirm you wish to unpublish this article’ button that will appear as a pop up window
- Make the required edits to the metadata/files via the vertical tab menu. Remember to click ‘Save’ on each page that is edited
Once all the files and metadata are correct, click the ‘Schedule for Publication’ button
- Click the ‘Publish’ button that will appear as a pop up window
The article will now be re-published and back online. Please note that it occasionally takes a short time for the changes to be reflected on the frontend website.
