What is an article processing charge (APC)?

All content published by ]u[ Ubiquity is made freely available online. The costs of publication - including managing peer review, production, and archiving - are paid for by article processing charges (APCs). We aim to keep this as low as possible. In general we expect the cost of publication to be covered by an author’s institution or funder, but where appropriate we waive or reduce APCs to ensure cost is not a barrier to publication. Some of our journals are fully funded, allowing APCs to be paid by a central fund acquired by the journal, other journals require the author to acquire the APC via their funder or institutional open access/publication funds. The APC allows the journal to remain sustainable whilst keeping 100% of the content freely available.
